Description
The Wabash Center is convening a round table conversation to catalyze emerging projects focused on upon queering pedagogy and self-care for LGBTQ+ faculty. We will be hosted at the Meadville Lombard Theological School in Chicago.
Questions for the Gathering
Some of the guiding questions for our conversation include: Who is the self who teaches as LGBTQ+? How does being a LGBTQ+ person register in these spaces? What would support our flourishing in our scholarship? What have been our struggles or challenges inhabiting predominantly cis-hetero spaces?
Our aim is to curate a conversation that explores the uniqueness and normativity of our experiences as LGBTQ+ faculty; considers ways that our embodied perspectives might positively and negatively affect pedagogy; and addresses the rapidly changing ways identities, current discourse and practices affect teaching and reflects upon the ways that deep political & theological divides are challenging to queer theory and theology. Additionally, our conversation will help us determine how to attend to self-care and determine vocational aspirations in unsafe contexts. Invited guests from the Chicago community join us!
